TOBACCON 2009 – National Conference on Tobacco aims to bring together experts from the government and the tobacco industry (both manufacturers and farmers) as well as the medical fraternity to debate the issues in and around the worst man-made calamity of the 21st century. The objective of the conference is to identify gaps in tobacco control in the areas of policy, implementation, actions of the Community, the non-government organizations and the government institutions in the various sectors and to suggest ways of filling up the gaps. The conference will focus on Government Policies to Curb the use Tobacco and Tobacco products, Government Policies to Increase Production of Tobacco, People's Initiative to fight the use of tobacco in society, Impact of Government policies on Manufacturer of Tobacco products, Impact of Government policies on Tobacco growers, and Strategies to bridge the gap arises as impact of above. Adopting global guidelines on protecting national public health policies from the influence of the tobacco industry, Endorsing guidelines on tobacco advertising and mandatory health warnings on product packaging, based on accumulated experience of what works, Sustainable alternatives to tobacco farming in areas where tobacco is a major cash crop, and Tobacco consumption and Public Health.
