Ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp Active Dry Yeast
  • 11/3 cup Warm Water
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 2½ tsp Anise Seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cup All-Purpose Flour (Maida)(unbleached)
  • 1 Egg White (beaten)
  • 1 tsp Water
  • 3 tbsp Sesame Seeds (Gingli)
How to make Anise Bread:
  • Preheat the oven at 375°F.
  • In a bowl, take yeast with a cup of water and mix well.
  • Stir in sugar and keep it to the side for 5-10 minutes.
  • Take yeast mixture with remaining water, oil, anise seeds, salt, and 2 cups flour in a large bowl and blend well.
  • Add the remaining flour slowly to the mixture and mix well to form a smooth & elastic dough.
  • Place the dough in a lightly buttered bowl and keep it covered with towel for 1½ hours.
  • Press down the dough and part into two. Shape the each dough into balls and keep it covered for 10 minutes.
  • Flatten the dough into rounds and transfer them to greased baking sheet.
  • Dig holes on the rounds using folk and brush with beaten egg white.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove and serve warm.
