For those who are not very familiar with south Indian cuisine, but are dying to try 'Upma', let me tell you that its quite easy to prepare. Apart from toast and Omelette, this dish is the next best idea for breakfast.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Cup Sooji/Rawa
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 2 Cups water
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 2 Green chilies (chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger(chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 8 Cashew nuts
  • Salt to taste
How to make Upma:
  • Roast rawa in a dry skillet on low flame until it starts to give off a distinct aroma. Take it out.
  • Heat ghee in the same and add cumin seeds, curry leaves, mustard, urad dal and cashew nuts .
  • Now add chopped greed chilli, ginger, onions and cook again for 3 minutes.
  • Now add salt, roasted sooji and water.
  • Stir well and cover it.
  • Upma is ready. Serve it with pickle.

i hve made upma with this receipe my upma became very tasty and look also good but slightly salt is needed in it rather it is very nice so, thank u very much

First time made upma using this recipe. Upma I cooked turned into golden/brownish color while the one in the picture is whitish. May be it has to do with mix/rava. As to water, start with a tea cup of water and keep adding if needed, water will soak.

i have cooked upma with this given recipe but i didn't find bikhra bikhra means look was not gd as given in the photo
