Ingredients:
  • 1 Egg
  • 1¼ cup Milk
  • 1 Lemon Rind
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 6 slices Stale Cake (½-inch thick)
  • ½ tsp powdered Cinnamon
  • 3 tsp Sugar
  • Pinch of Salt
How to make Italian Fritters:
  • Cut out the cakes into round shapes.
  • Whisk egg and milk together. Mix in lemon rind, salt, and 1 tsp of sugar.
  • Dip cake slices in egg mixture until soft.
  • Heat 1 tbsp of the butter in a shallow nonstick frying pan over medium low heat.
  • Place 2 dipped cake slice at a time in hot butter.
  • Simmer until golden brown and turn to brown other side also.
  • Remove from the pan and repeat same with remaining butter and cake slices.
  • Combine cinnamon with remaining sugar and sprinkle over each fritter.
