Medu vada is a South Indian breakfast item which is made with rice and urad dal. These vada have a specific shape and can be identified with that. If you visit this part of the country then these vadas are a must try. We can also make it at home following the easy recipe, and if you think you cannot give it the traditional shape, there are different molding machines available in the market.

Recipe Type Veg.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Raw Rice
  • 2½ cups Urad Dal
  • 1 large Onion (chopped)
  • 4 Green Chilies
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Peppercorn
  • 2 cups Oil
How to make Medu Vada:
  • Put dal and rice in water and leave it for 5 hrs.
  • Drain it and grind to make a paste.
  • Grind peppercorn separately and mix it in the dal-rice paste.
  • Now add chopped onion, green chilies and salt and make it like a batter.
  • Heat the oil in pan.
  • Take small portions of the batter, in ball-like shape and deep-fry them.
  • Fry the balls, till they turn golden brown.
  • Medu Vada is ready!

I tried to do this but it became much oily and also were sticking down at kadai.
please help me to make them better.

I tried this recipe it is fantastic, can u tel me If i want to make medu vada 1 cup Rice then shoud i take 1 1/2 cup Urad dal or 1 1/4 cup Urad dal.
