Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Lentils (Masoor)
  • 1 Onion (coarsely chopped)
  • 2 Onions (finely sliced)
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • ½ inch piece of fresh Ginger Root
  • 2 Dry Red Hot Pepper
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Cardamom (shelled)
  • 2 Cloves (pound roughly)
  • 3 Black Peppercorns
  • 1/2 tsp Dhansaak Masala or Sambhar Powder
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 8 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 lb Chicken or Lamb (cut into small pieces)
How to make Masoor Ma Gosht:
  • Heat 4 tbsp of oil in a frying pan. Fry the meat pieces in it with salt until tender and light golden. Keep it separately.
  • Cook lentils with 4 cups water, coarsely chopped onions and salt until water is absorbed and lentils are just tender not mushy. Keep aside.
  • Heat the remaining oil and fry the sliced onions until golden. Reserve half of the onions and 2 tbsp oil. Add spices to fried onion in pan and cook 5 minutes. Now add the lentils and mix well, sprinkle the sugar and cover to simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer the lentils in a serving dish and mix the chicken pieces. Sprinkle the reserved onions and oil. Serve with steamed rice.
