Wonderful Mother

Even though the child may not be aware of it at all, the first word that it learns when it starts to speak is 'ma', or mother. The mother is indeed its alpha who will always be there for her child till the omega. She is truly a precious gift bestowed magnanimously upon us by god and words fail us when we marvel at our good fortune to have her around with us. She is the one who takes full onus of leaving no stone unturned in shouldering the responsibility of bringing up her children with absolute selflessness while showering them with unconditional love and care for as long as she is alive. To ensure that her kids get no less than the best in their lives, a mother strives day in and day out to that end. Have you ever wondered why is a mother regarded around the world with such veneration, almost akin to the angels and divine? The reasons may hardly take you surprise, but they may very well make you ponder over the greatness of a mother that often goes unnoticed and hence, unacknowledged. Moms are accorded such deep reverence because they are the only ones who will bend over backwards despite a packed schedule to provide for all the requirements of her child, spoken or understood. She has to squeeze in time for everything wherein she has to take into account her professional as well as personal commitments and obligations. While discharging her duties, she simply cannot have the leisure or luxury of a let-up where she can relax for a while in order to rejuvenate herself. A mother will work all day and night without complaining about anything. She gulps down many of her problems and makes endless compromises and sacrifices on her part so that her child does not get adversely affected by anything. Whether it is day or night hardy holds any importance for her as for her, the only thing she can think of as her job is how to make the future of her kids bright and replete with success and fame. This, so that her hard work bears fruit and so that they do not have to struggle the way she did for her kids to get all the good things. In honor of her love, care, selflessness and sacrifices, every year the second Sunday of May is celebrated as mother's day wherein people of all ages express and reciprocate their love and gratitude for their wonderful moms. Many do so through the medium of poems, which helps them pen their feelings in a better way. One such poem is 'Wonderful Mother' in which the poet appreciates his mother and analogizes her beauty to the sunshine and stars.

Here are the lyrics of a famous poem about mother titled "wonderful mother" by Pat O'Reilly.

Wonderful Mother
God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine.
And He moulded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.
