Basic Apple Pie


  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ¾ cup Shortening
  • 4 tbsp Cold Water
  • 7 cups thinly sliced peeled Baking Apples
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • ¼ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground Nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp Butter or Margarine
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  • Cut in shortening and slowly add water, 1 tbsp at a time.
  • Toss lightly with a fork until the dough forms a ball.
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Remove and transfer half of the dough on a floured surface.
  • Roll out into a 10-inch circle.
  • Place in the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.
  • Place apples in a bowl.
  • Sprinkle lemon juice and toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
  • Add to the apples and blend well.
  • Pour over the crust.
  • Dot with butter.
  • Roll out the remaining dough, large enough to cover the top of the pie.

  • 1 cup Rolled Oats
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ½ cup slivered Almonds
  • ¼ tsp ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ cup Butter (cubed)
Pie Crust
  • 1 (9-inch) single Pie Crust
  • 6 Apples (peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp All-purpose Flour
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp ground Cinnamon
  • ½ cup Caramel Sauce
  • Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
  • Prepare the topping by mixing oats, brown sugar, flour, almonds, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Cut in butter and mix until you get a crumbly mixture. Keep aside.
  • Roll out the pie dough into a 10-inch circle and line in a 9-inch pie plate.
  • Trim the pastry and crimp the edges.
  • Combine apples and lemon juice in a bowl. Toss well.
  • Mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon together in a separate bowl.
  • Add apples and toss to coat evenly.
  • Drizzle ¼ cup of caramel sauce on the bottom of the pie shell.
  • Layer the apple mixture over the sauce.
