Pompeu Fabra University is an urban university which is located in the very heart of the city, stretching from the Rambla to the olympic Village. A public university that was set up by an act of the Catalan Parliament, Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is widely considered to be one of the best public universities in Spain and also Europe. The University's teaching and research activity is organised according to three campuses and areas of knowledge. They are as follows: social and human sciences (Ciutadella campus), information and communication sciences and technology (Communications campus- Poblenou) and biomedical sciences (Mar campus). Universidad Pompeu Fabra
- This is a fairly recent university founded by the Generalitat (Government of Catalonia). on 18th June 1990, the Parliament granted permission for the establishment of a new public institute in Catalonia known to us as 'Pompeu Fabra University'. This university is named after the man who laid down the standards for the modern Catalan language, Pompeu Fabra.
- one of the first lectures in this university was given way back in the 1990s. This is where the site where the Balmes Building is currently located. A decade back, this was the site of the Fòrum Verges. The lecture was attended by around 300 students studying to get a degree in Law and Economics and Business Sciences.
- of late, the total number of students studying in this university has crossed one million. With courses in all fields ranging from experimental, health and life sciences to human and social sciences, studying in Universitat Pompeu Fabra is definitely a matter of pride!
